Expect Social Services Throttling
In authoritarian states, social services are not distributed equally, or based on need.
They are distributed based on who is in favor with the regime.
Right now, through the new policies being adopted, is it clear that the disabled, the poor, and the non-white are not in favor with this regime.
The disabled are having healthcare and social services taken away with Medicaid cuts, the poor are having their food assistance gutted, and the non-white are being rounded up indiscriminately in ICE raids regardless of citizenship status.
However, many people who are not in these groups (and plenty within them) still think, "this will never happen to me".
It will happen to you unless you meet certain criteria.
This is because regimes like this use social services throttling based on social characteristics.
Social characteristics are not just attributes about you, but also 1) who you spend time with 2) where you spend time 3) what you do in your time and 4) what you choose to say.
If you spend time with people who oppose the regime, it will be assumed you do too. If you are in highly liberal areas, especially those slated to be national defense areas (NDA's), you will be punished for that. If you choose to engage in typically liberal activities, or speak up for liberal causes, this will also impact you.
How?
Well, nation states these days have a lot of technology, and earlier this year warrantless surveillance powers were put into effect. This means that giant data centers can crunch all of your Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Apple data to do what's called "sentiment analysis". Sentiment analysis basically tries to quantify your feelings.
Are you loyal, or are you not loyal?
If you're loyal, then you might get Social Security. If you're loyal, you might get disability benefits. If you're loyal, you might be allowed to travel outside the country.
But otherwise, you might not get those things.
So, if you need social services, or want to leave the country, be careful what you say and do, and with where, and with who. Do not rant on Facebook. Do not send email blasts lambasting the government. Do not use geotagging if you're going to protests and rallies.
