Militarized Zone Expansion is Imminent
The government is developing and expanding militarized areas of the country called "National Defense Areas" (NDAs).
Right now, they are mostly around military bases and along the borders.
However, there are plans to expand them widely across liberal strongholds, like the coastal regions.
It is critical that you are aware of these zones and their territories, because they essentially allow the military to claim large swathes of land (even as large as cities) as extensions of military bases.
When you are on a "military base", it is not federal law that applies. The military is allowed to arrest and apprehend anyone they like without due process.
The only hold up in expanding these areas is that the US does not have enough detention centers to contain everyone who will protest the suspension of due process.
This is why the "One Big Beautiful Bill" contained $45B for ICE to create internment camps - which is larger than the budget of the entire U.S. Bureau of Prisons.
U.S. prisons house around 2 million inmates - but the detention centers ICE is building, leasing, and creating should cost less than half of what it does to run them.
Why? Because they only need about 25% as much space, packing in 20+ bodies to a single holding area, and because they don't provide expensive items like medical care, air conditioning, or rehabilitation programming. And, some of them are going to be located in lower cost countries, like Panama.
For these reasons, it is reasonable to estimate that the detention centers are expected to hold anywhere between 4-10 million people on this year's budget alone.
This is horrifying, and also par for the course with current rhetoric.
If you end up living in an NDA, try to leave. If you can't leave, be very, very careful what you say, who you spend time with, what you put in writing digitally, and what causes you support.
